Smash Remix Mallorca #7 Tournament Report

Smash Bros. Mallorca returned to the Salón de Actos de la Entidad Local Menor de Palmanyola on Saturday, September 19, to host its next Smash Remix tournament.

Due to a series of circumstances, the event had fewer participants than on previous occasions, but that didn’t stop the players from enjoying a very interesting afternoon, with tense sets, intense matchups, and a good number of upsets.

In fact, at Smash Remix Mallorca #7, it became clear that the Mallorcan players are increasingly dominating the Smash Bros. mod for Nintendo 64, as some remarkably high-level sets were witnessed.

Despite several regular Smash Remix players from the community being absent, this tournament saw the return of Notah, a veteran player who was active during the early years of Ultimate. Despite this being his first Remix event, he managed to give Ramonium a very difficult match and defeat Jotan in losers (3-1).

In Winners Round 2, we also got to see an incredible set between Zennos and Inot. It was a very tense match in which both players were able to demonstrate that their training had paid off, ultimately ending in a close 3-2 victory for the former.

However, Marrob, one of the favorites to win the tournament, delivered a decisive 3-0 victory over Zennos, sending him to the losers bracket and securing his spot in the Winners Final. Moyans!!! did the same against Ramonium, defeating his friend 3-1 in the most classic Smash Bros. Mallorca set, despite his old rival making things more difficult for him than it might have initially seemed.

Then, in losers, Zennos put an end to Notah’s run in the tournament with a decisive 3-0. On the same side of the bracket, against all odds, Inot managed to upset Ramonium with a reverse 3-0, making it 3-2 on the scoreboard.

Inot got his revenge against Zennos, and in the losers semifinal, he managed to defeat him once again in a close 3-2 set. Absolute tension between the two players.

Meanwhile, in the Winners Final, Marrob managed to defeat Moyans!!! 3-1. The veteran Goemon main needed a game plan if he wanted to win the tournament, so after dropping to losers, he quickly dispatched Inot (3-0) with a single goal in mind: to steamroll Marrob and prove to everyone that he is still the best Smash Remix player in Mallorca.

An intense grand final between the two titans of Mallorca

Moyans!!! was determined to steamroll Marrob (currently Mallorca’s #1 player in Ultimate) and prove that he is still the island’s best Smash Remix competitor. The Crash main had already taken the previous tournament away from the Goemon player, and Moyans!!! didn’t want the same situation to happen again: he wanted to make it clear to everyone that he is the king of Smash 64 in Mallorca.

And, sure enough, he got off to a very strong start. Moyans!!! began adapting to Marrob, and in an incredibly tense set, managed to close it out 3-2, defeating the "encocado" Crash who has crushed more than a few dreams. And so, with his victory, came the reset: both players, now on the losers side, had one final set to play to be crowned champion of Smash Remix Mallorca #7.

The matchup started from scratch once again, and we got to enjoy the highest level of gameplay that Mallorca has to offer—a level of quality that could soon start attracting the attention of players from outside the island (if it hasn’t already).

Ultimately, despite Moyans!!!’s efforts, Marrob managed to adapt to his adjustments and closed out the set 3-1, taking the tournament and confirming his dominance as perhaps the best Smash Remix player in Mallorca at the moment.
